Making an polygon shape to slowly appear.

I wonder if this can be done....

Basically I'm wanting to make a 3d square appear out of thin air, slowly, gradually fading in.

Thanks to any helpers in advance user added image

If you are interested in the final output rather than the application software, I suggest you use maya to model, animate and render the cube and use a compositing software for the fading effect. Tell if you want more details

I agree with melancholy. but if you have to use maya then just key the transparency of the material on the object. If you don't want a straight fade in then you can use a noise map and animate that to go from white to black.

I didn't mean if you were using Maya or not, Mathew:p I meant were you just going to be using Maya, or were you going to be using additional software for compositing.

melancholy and Pure_Morning answered you perfectly for either situation.

Hope it works out!
