Ocean Reflections

Hello,

I created a fluid effects Ocean and a poly plane (turned 90 degrees)
I gave a checkered texture to the plane. Now , when I render I want the checkered plane to reflect in the ocean water.

I render with Mental ray and raytracing turned ON, but I get no reflections in the Ocean.
Is it possible to get these reflections with a Maya ocean, and how can I do it ?

example: https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/dsc02.html

(see picture on second row, left...)

In the pictures , you see that it's rendered with Maya Software renderer. How can that be ( reflections...?)

Thanks,

al

sure you can have reflections in a software render, all you need to do is make sure you have ray traceing setting turn on in the render options.
I got good reflection in both software and Mental Ray. Make sure your water is very flat. Also on your checkerd plane, add some ambient colour. Push it about half way up.This causes it to reflect more in the water.
Also there are some setting in the ocean shader. Go to your attributes editor and find the "Specular Shading" section. Play with the specularity and eccentricity settings. This will also help you tweak the reflections.
Good luck
Hope this helps

Nick

There's nothing normal about normals. In FACT i think the are abnormal.

Go to the checkered object's shape-tab in the attributes editor, open up the "Render Stats" menu, and make sure "visible in reflections" is checked.

Remember -- thats on the object being reflected
