Hi all,
I decided i wanted to see how quickly i can make a human face. This took me about 3 or so hours to do. i am pretty happy with it so far.

Nice job dude. My only crit is that tri on the cheek. Check your edge flow and get rid of it. That area is one to watch if you are going to animate this dudes mouth area.

Cheers
Jay

Allo

Jay- its funny, You actually said the same thing about my last head i posted in another thread, it must be the way i model them that causes that to happen. Its gone now so its all good.
Also, its actually supposed to be a chick. Looking at the pic i can see how they look a bit like a dude but hopefully i have made it more obvious now.

Arran- Thanks, i made it less narrow and i reckon it is looking better now.

I think i might make some more heads after this cause i got a cool collection of mug shots which would be a real challenge to do, make something a bit more rugged and wrinkly for my next one.

nice job, man.

speed modeling is great practice. Turned out pretty awesome too. But I'm a bit confused about your target - why are you rendering the shaded at such a low tessellation?

It looks really nice from the front with the exception of the perspective distortion and a big contrast in edge density in some places (like the eyes) It loses a lot when you spin it to a 3/4 view though. front+side views are nice, but you also have to fill in the blanks and understand what the form looks like from angles. The biggest thing I see is that the cheekbone is coming too far forward, find more refs and check the relationships between the eyebrows-cheekbones-modiolus and so on.

Anyway, another thing I wanted to mention was the ear, it's really under defined and placed a bit too far back, it looks like. For a speed model, that's probably okay, but if you're going to start it you gotta finish it! user added image

keep it up!

Thanks,
I have worked on the proportions and shape a bit more and evened out the mesh density .
The way i like to model is start with a low poly model then slowly add more details until it is at a level that i like. I think this one will be mediumish poly count. The ears are actually from an older model just to save time.

Check your ear toward the front, it should meet the face and be 'flush against the face, also give it more definition

Cheers
