Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Newbie Question

Hi,

I am obviously new to Maya and have been going through tons of tutorials and material to get a grasp on this amazing software. I am wanting to design a tooth (molar) with all the high level of detail of an actual tooth. I am wondering where the best place to start would be, like should i use a poly...?

Please let me know what you think would be the best way to proceed to achieve the proper smoothness with all of the different contours and grooves.

Thanks for your help,

Hey there ryan, I am also new to Maya and started out using Poly's to model everything, then I did a tutorial I got from here (Cartoon Dog) and found I liked the way the work flow was, starting with nurbs and converting to poly and subd's later on.

I suggest doing the Cartoon Dog tutorial I found it very useful.
