thanks everyone, much appreciated user added image

THX1138 - just polys. I realised that for the most they are straight lines so I just used an 8 sided cylinder, extruded it, did a couple of cuts in areas that needed to be bent and rotated the verts. The string wrapped around the pegs are just cylinders with a few cuts that are pulled towards the center. A duplication and minor resize worked for all the other string thickensses.
A bit of a cheat and a little time consuming but I think it worked user added image

I will go back and do the nurbs circle along a path method (not done it yet) as that would be sooo much faster user added image

Fallenswordsman - the festive cheer might make it hard to finish but I'll try - beers up! user added image

dont they?
thats it then, there are too many people who say that they can't always see the stuff user added image
I'm after a new host starting monday.

Hosting running php would be preferable but if it ends up being just standard html then that'll have to do.

Thanks mike and mayafreak3, its definately appreciated user added image

I've not had any time to do the uv mapping etc this weekend. Also might not get enough time to look into shaders, mental ray, HDRI etc so the main goal is just to get a basic texture on.
