Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Using NURBS & Polygons together?

Hey Guys,
Quick question for you...

I'm in the process of modeling a character for my demo reel. My question is,

Is it normal to use a combination of geometry types? ie. Some parts NURBS, and some parts polygons.

Or is it wise to keep everything the same, either polygons or NURBS?

It's sorta a simple character; stick like/robot character.

hmm if its a simple character mate and it is mainly robotic shapes then polys would be great for this!!

but you could pull out the rough shape with nurbs and then modify -convert - polygons... theres so many ways

any chance of a reference image so I can help you more?

Almost every one of my models uses both Nurbs Polys, and at one point in time Sub'ds. I think each has its benifits, over another, so depending on what part you are working on, makes a difference. I think anyways, anyways you can allways convert Nurbs to Polys when you are done if you want to keep it all the same.
