P40 - f - WW2 fighter

Hi,

since I've abandoned the Mclaren, I have started a P40 fighter.

Crits and comments welcome. I'm particularly interested in whether I should be making this all as one piece (only the cockpit is made of different sections at the moment) or dividing it up.

Got good refs and made a decent start so this one will definitely get finished.

Cheers

Thats one sweet plane!

Your model is looking good so far. I would most likely model the whole plane as a whole, and then break it up as desired when it came time to refine everything. That way you know everything is going to line up.

nice work!

looks pretty good, although the hole (or inset) on the side of the plane towards the front is too big. in the pictures it's a lot more narrow from top to bottom.

hi neostrider,

thanks for the crits. Agreed on the front inset, need to tweak that later once the entire mesh is built.

updte, built the tail, started on the wing and added some cockpit and engine detail.

Taken into account neostrider's comments on the width of the opening in the nose.

Still got a couple of kinks to straighten out, but the mesh is still pretty low res so will be easy enough.

Still working, got the whole shape blocked in now and been tweaking to get rid of dents. This is just a render with smooth x 2 and basic final gather settings.

Hi,

been working on some detailing. I've also altered it to be the p-40-e, rather than the -f, since the -e has a more interesting shape around the nose.

crits and comments welcome.

Just render with basic final gathering, last update for the day. Still need to smooth out the mesh a little here and there and rebuild the propellers since they don't look right.

i'd take a look at some actual photo references for this plane only to see if they put the parts together with rivets or welding... rivets on the body would look cool and could probably be applied with a bump, although modeling them would look pretty cool in the pre-texturing phase and after as well.

i agree about the propeller blades not looking right, but can't really place what it is about them. cockpit and rear wing look pretty good.
