Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Jan/Feb - Norm - Blomkaal

Allright, not sure if I'll have time to do this comp, but in case I do, I just wanted to call dibs on the model, which will be:
Myself! Or maybe a friend of mine... Or maybe even his girlfriend.. user added image
Dunno yet, but this is definetly a great chance to have a go at finally modelling something familiar to me in my everyday life user added image

Just need to go out and find someone with a camera for some refs...

My mate's girlfriend gave me to go to modelling her, so I'll get started once I get some refs... Here's an eyeball for ya

EDIT: So far the eyeball is just a smoothed poly sphere. If I have som spare time in the end, I might have a go at actually modelling an eyeball, with a cornea and stuff. Also, I didn't paint and bloodvessels in the texture, 'cause I tried and I sucked user added image Again, if I have some time left when everything else is done, I might try again...
The shader is just a basic blinn atm, but I'm thinking of changing it to a phong as they seem to have much sharper specularity (although I guess you can just tweak a blinn to have that too). Any suggestions/experiences on what to use?

Haven't gotten any refs yet (should get some later today though), so I worked a bit more on the eye. I still need to tweak some shader settings though...

EDIT: btw, I smoothed the eye mesh, but I'd like to tweak it a little. Is there some way I can get rid of the smooth? I've still got the history...

Go to the input node in the attribute editor and select the polysmooth. Then set subdivisions to 0 and delete history.

Thanks

I've tried converting to sub-d's instead, but now my texture looks all screwed up... Have I done something terrible or is this a common reaction? user added image

Finally got a ref! Only front atm though, hopefully I'll have the profile tomorrow and will have something to post!

Got the profile ref this evening, unfortunately, it doesn't match up too good with the front since it's pictures she took herself using her cellphone, so I'll try and take some next time I see her, maybe (hopefully) this weekend. Started the nose though

Screw this! Sadly I have to quit this comp since I still haven't gotten any ref's from her, and she apparently can't find some time for me to stop by and take them myself...

Vanity's a bitch!

Oh well, looking at some of the other entries, I didn't stand a chance anyhow user added image

bad luck user added image

You should hit google/yahoo images for animals and see what springs up. Remember a self portrait could be used too (I think).

Yeah I just took some ref's of myself a few minutes ago, and I'll start a wip, but I think I might be too far behind on the challenge... We'll see how far I get...
