rendering high quality

Im not sure if anyone has this problem. But when I render at high quality at HD 720. It looks GREAT....but when i go to "maya/projects/default/images and look at the image in there...it looks dull and slightly pixelated. Why is this??

PLEASE HELP. Thanks!

i usually let it render as a JPG or PNG if i plan on taking it into Flash or After Effects

im not sure...ill give that a go, maybe that will fix it...because currently i make all my renders twice the size i NEED them to be...because when i resize them in Photoshop to the size i need..then they look crisp...but i thought to myself that there is NO WAY that everyone does that just to get a quality image. I mean inside maya the render looks PERFECT...so ya i will try those file types. Thanks

are you viewing it at 1:1? also what are your anti-aliasing settings?

ok so thanks so much for the help guys. I exported as a TIFF which holds transperancy (oddly enough MUCH better then PNG) AND is MUCH better quality then the JPG's i was previously exporting with. The render looks perfect. thanks again!

i believe maya uses .iff file for the rendered output then you save it as a different file type.

thats a reflective looking road you got there.

...you should investigate file types. most people use tiff or targa. jpg are not great, so no surprise that a tiff looks better. user added image

im trying to make the road look wet...is it too reflective you think?

Also ya i will definitely use tiff for now on...much better results.

hmm. it's not really that big of a surprise
I can't remember if tiff is uncompressed data or not, but if it is, it's lossless (or close too... i can't remember)
it's not as lossy as png. lossy meaning when it's compressed it looses quite a bit of data that can't be brought back when uncompressed (if i remember right)

JPGs are always lossy, and if you save straight out from Maya i think it uses the lowest quality compression (hence why giant images are only 20kb)

like hammer said, tiff and tga are generally what people use because they aren't so bad as the others. they do take up more space on your harddrive though.

there's probably nothing wrong with the roads reflection, it just doesn't look wet, so it looks partly mirror-like... sorry, can't help on a solution for that

Last I checked, Maya's jpeg compression was just terrible. The road looks weird because there's grain in the color map but the reflections are mirror clear.
