Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

64 bits?

As the AMD64 are becoming more and more popular, even in with multi-cpu configurations... Are MAYA able to take advantage of the new 64 bit architecture, or do we have to wait for a new 64bit edition of maya to get that 64bit boost in performance?

I am fairly sure Maya does not utilize the 64bit processors yet.

So basically... A 64bit version of maya (or at least the renderer) is still far away..?

I would imagine that Alias would be interrested in adding that extra bit of performance that 64bit CPUs have to offer...

It seems to me that AMD at least is going 64Bit all the way, leaving 32bit as a thing of the past...

I know the new mac OS "tiger" ... will itself be a 64 bit operating system.. I too would think that apps would begin to adjust accordingly.

I made a dual Opteron system a few months ago, just to use for Maya. I installed WinXP 64 bit, but had to go back to Normal 32 bit XP as Maya just wont run in Win xp 64 bit...

I will just have to wait... Frustrating having a dual 64 bit system and I cant utilise it ......

That's useful information. I was going to install WinXP64 but if Maya won't work with it then why bother..

I dont think you need XP Pro.. It will work on a XP home machine also.. I would recommend the 1 gig Ram though... It will help you tremendously.

That link just takes you to a page which seems to be loading but just sits there for ages..

This thread is realy about Maya not running under Winwows 64 bit software.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but you seriously don't wanna be using XP 64 at this moment in time for anything other than testing it out. It's buggy as hell and not worth the CDs you burn it to.

Also, NEVER buy emachines, worst pieces of crap in the world, My sister bought one, 2.4GHz P4 machine, the thing ran like my old 750MHz Duron machine, man... Infact probably worse. never trust them.
