Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Space Creature

I started modeling some creature a while ago and decided to finish it. Hopefully I'll actually finish this one. Not sure what direction I'm going yet. Probably a recipe for disaster....
I was going for a Star Warsish character. C & C welcome.

Hmm, so not sure what direction huh?

These are the things that will make or break you as a modeller or whatever you see yourself as.

Always make a plan of what you are about to undertake, you'll end up wasting your own time otherwise and start turning out junk. And if you are doing stuff for a client or employer...if you get that far...

You'll never see or hear of a game or movie studio not doing sketches or maquettes before going into full production, regardless of it being CG or even full sized sets or props...

Come on people show some thought!!

Thanks for the crits guys.
@Jay- Note taken. I decided to go for a dragon for this project, which sorta defeats the purpose of the title.. oh well.
Anyway, here is the wireframe. I might make him look angry later.

Alot of your geometry looks squary.

Try to make it more round and organic like muscle.

Create an extra edge on the bottom of the horns to create what you can see on your nails.

Horn never comes strait out of flesh, well they do, but the flesh buldges around the horn.

I found it easy to start building a base body and then add details.

Because its so easy to quickly modify your geometry without all the small testicles

[edit] dit i say testicles i meant tentacles

So true, add the genitals after you get the basic shape! Looks kinda like a fantasy Trojan horse so far.

Yay, not a freshman anymore!

I fixed a few problems. Lighting needs work I know. I prefer dark backdrops rather than heavily lit occlusions.

hmmm...

Still too square. You should draw it out and import the images into you front, side and top cameras to get a better idea of the form of the head. Don't try to just make something out of a shape. Draw it out and take your time and plan it out before you start modeling. You're off to a good start though. Keep it up!

er - i kind of like the fact that it's square - i mean, unless you are going for some thing realistic of course - at the moment i think it's looking kind of cool. user added image
