Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

felt

could someone suggest how to a kind of felt texture, like a slightly bobbly pool table for example to a good quality pool table? I am not sure which elements in the bump mapping and shading to use really, and I have done very little texturing indeed.

Guess you could always model a small patch of it using fur, render out an ortho view of it then tweak to turn into a tileable texture.

Just a thought anyway. Guess it depends on how close you need to get to it.
