It sort of sounds like a history build-up issue…… Do you delete your history often?

Also, what version of Maya are you using, and what are your tech specs? user added image

OK. Just a few more questions. Did you save it as .ma or .mb, and what is the size of the file?

hey "ColdWave" sorry 2 hear your having problems with ur maya man.

i also encountered something like that 3 to 4 weeks ago, my area blacked out serveral times when i was working on maya, and the worst part is that i coulnt get back my project, even in the temp it was lost, i had to redo the whole lots of parts i lost, i was so pissed off.

Then came THIS weird error saying Your Maya had 2 be close cuz of Unknown reason and then i get to buttons 2 click at Report to Autodesk or Close. that error kept on coming for like a week when i opened that project then i decided not 2 use maya for awhile, then i could open the project when i let maya rest but the problem that i started facing after that is that in my scene when i zoom in or out my scene tends to disappear in a very close range zoom. its like my whole project was crushed i had 2 go 2 the previous saves.

so im sorry 2 hear u lost ur work but sometimes i just wish that Maya Could Have the Temporary Memory save if your machine suddenly goes off ( Like Microsoft word)..

oh well :shakehead

Wait a sec…… Slow down some, I don’t know if I’m understanding you right. You say that when you open the file in Maya it crashes Maya.

It is 5.01 MB well i was modeling and PC restart ... no save

This makes it sound like Maya deleted the file……

Also, what file type was it (.ma or .mb)?

Well, I could open it up, but it took a while. I got a ton of errors in the SE like these:

// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove67 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove68 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove69 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove70 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove71 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove72 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove73 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove74 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove75 on selection //

// Warning: Can't perform polyExtrudeFace18 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform connectEdges165 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyAutoProj1 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapCut2 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove1 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMapSewMove2 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMergeUV1 on selection //
// Warning: Can't perform polyMergeUV2 on selection //

When I deleted the history, it got rid of a ton of those, but there’s still a bunch of them there.

Unfortunately (for you), I have Maya 8.5. If I save the scene out, you might have some problems with it. Hopefully there’s someone here with 8.0 here that can help you out.

Just remember that all is not lost with that scene.

@jr.who
Save it up as fbx if it's a scene without animation.

@Coldwave and jr.who
Or save it as MA and then download a MA version convertor at highend3d.com

Hope it helps.

But if I save it as an .ma file, won’t something mess up with it? I don’t have a highend3d.com account, so I couldn’t do that.

Also, if I save it as .ma, won’t it get really big?

You don't need an account at highend coldwave dose.

Well it's worth the filesize if it works user added image, it's just 25% more.

And if zipped it you can save 70 or more %

OK, I’ll try it tonight. Email me your email address coldwave, as that would be much easier to send the file to.

Anyone know what it is? user added image
