Im new to maya and modeling and I am in need of advice. my question would be is nurb to poly modeling suited for character animation? polys seem harder to work with for me.

whatever suits you best - there are no hard and fast rules, though i think most people find polys a lot easier than nurbs. user added image

As arran mentioned its all about personal preference, for instance I know alot of people (including myself) who start of by dragging the basic shape out using nurbs, then convert them to polys, it is also quite dependent on what you are trying to model. I would use nurbs then convert to polys for organic modelling and just polys for non organic modelling generally.

Thank you all very much these are some thing I will keep in mind. Although right now I am takeling a problem Im having with my view ports. Sometmes in certain ports I cant see tools like rotate and scale. I beleive this is because of my graphics card Its an intel And I already have to run it in 16 bits to get all my veiw ports in screen. its really anoying and I might have to deal with rotating in a different port than the one Im working. Again thanks all for the help! God knows I need it.

could be the onboard graphics processor... can you actually update those drivers, or no?
