Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Apologies to Kurt and his Spitfire tut

Kurt I apologise,

when going from part 5 to 6 you had already completed the tail fin and not shown us how. Whether by design or accident it was difficult to ascertain what you had done. Having only half the model so to speak (tail fin) I wasnt sure what to do. I googled to find out why I couldnt get vertices to snap to the grid together (turn off 'keep component spacing' helped).

I then selected faces on the tail and extracted, duplicated then went through the process as the horizontal rear wings. I used insert edge loop more than split poly as it was easier (cheating). I also used the 'bridge' command instead of extruding edges (again cheating). I came up with a good result and I am happy that (again design or accident) you made me think.

I felt like smashing the lappy with my hand of course, then realised that THINKING about what I was wanting to achieve was more effective. So all of you novices (like me) out there, dont despair, think, remember and experiment. CTRL z is a powerful weapon and can always be used.

Cheers bullet

Bullet,

(1) when snapping verts to grid (x), curve (c), or vert (v) make sure "keep relative spacing" is set to what you are going for, most of the time you will probably want it unchecked.

(2) also make sure your axis is in "world" mode. any other mode and snapping behaves oddly.
