Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Sigorney Weavers Avatar is So damn much hotter then she is.....

I still thing the septum drops a bit too far below the nose but other then that, not much to point out at this point that hasn't already been said atleast once.

Thats why her avatar is my favorite.

Anyway, daverave I did a paint over using the actual photo reference you provided on page one. I did some adjustments to the eye placement ( moving them down a bit ) and jaw line going all the way up to the ears. These are the areas I think need the most work for your avatar to better match your photo reference. I hope you don't mind my input in this fashion.

Yeah, I read that article as well Jay about Weaver's nose.

I also read that Weaver did not like the way the navi nose made her look and since Cameron and Weaver are also friends he agreed to it being modeled more human like.

The really interesting thing I read and anxiously want to see when the movie goes to dvd / blue ray is supposedly there is a scene, that was deleted where they actually bring up her Avatar's nose.

Hey I stumbled on this and thought it would prove helpful to all you guys in the Navi challenge...

https://forum.learnnavi.org/fan-art/na'vi-avatars-noses-and-you/

I have been poking around in the site and it has some very helpful references. Should I ever decide to drink the coolaid and go the gazillion polygon digital sculpting with z-brush route (which at some point I will) I think a Navi will be a good place to start.

and BTW I think Zoe Saldana actually looks more attractive as a navi then human lol.

I haven't seen the movie yet so can't really comment on the debate over how much it should look like a navi but I'm definitely seeing the likeness between you and it. user added image

fantastic job daverave,Looks alot better! The face is still a bit thin as compared to your reference photo. I recommend fleshing it out a little bit more.

Keep up the great work! user added image
