Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

Disappearing files?

This is weird, but I'm certain some files on my desktop have disappeared. A bunch of jpegs and a few maya scene files. I did not delete them on purpose or by accident, because they werent in my recycle bin. I run Windows XP. I ran virus scan and found nothing, and my hardrive is only a few months old. Any idea what cause this?

does anyone else use that computer????? maybe someone else deleted them then emptied the recycle bin
