What should I do first?

I have just finished going through the Maya PLE 4.0 "instant maya" tutorial, and to my dismay I discovered about 10 tutorials of about twice the size covering each of the major areas of 3D animation. Before I start going through these and spend several months, I want to be sure that this is the best option, I don't want to end up searching the web for little tutorials covering little bits and pieces that the first tutorial I did, did not cover. I've heard that the gnomon dvd's are good, but they are too expensive. So- what do you think? If you are a Maya pro, what do you think you should have done?

PS This is my first post in the forums and waiting to learn lots through this Maya community.

This stuff takes a bit of time to learn.... if you're just starting, then you do need to prepare to spend a number of months learning and building your skills. All I can say is welcome to CG and good luck! user added image

I say finish the tutorials that you have right now. They give you a great overview of what Maya can do. Then you can go through the free tutorials on this site. You may not need to do all of them depending on what kind of you're interested in doing. Beyond that, there are a ton of tutorials available online, most of them on specific topics. And of course, you can post questions on these forums and someone will help you out.

Welcome to SM!

Yeah do what you have then work through what you want to learn about next! ie I am making a character with hair so I wanted to know how to make good hair so I found a tut on making hair in maya! Just learn the basics then once you feel go with that work up to creating worlds! Worlds that only you and your imagination... and Maya can bring to the rest of us! Cheers mate and welcome to SM and CG!
