Easy way to do such backgrounds?

how can i smooth the edges of a poly cube? The edges in my sample look a bit smooth. How do I achieve that? I don't want to smooth the whole object.

by adding cuts and extrudes to keep some edges hard and yet allowing others to smooth.

I dont think it was done by hand though, it's really simple to do in 3d though.

I know that is realy simple to do that in 3d but it looks to me like drawing!! And if it`s maked in some 3d program that is compliment to artist who have maked it!! Em i right or not??
