problems with Nurbs Smoothness

hey, i have problems with applying smoothness to curves.
i create a curve with cv curve tool, then apply display>>nurbs>>fine, or just press 3. nothing happens. nothing happens on pressing 1 or 2 either. i also tried to change parameters in the custom smoothness box, still nothing. i guess there's smth wrong with the curve/
i remember everything used to be ok.
i'm a newby in maya, so maybe i just did smth wrong...

could you tell me where approximately this could be?

i'm learning using a step by step tutorial.
the strange thing is that in the lesson teaching to build curves with cv curve tool the color of my curves differs from the color of the curves in the lesson.

does anybody know what the problem is? it used to be ok, i dont know why it changed.

Your prefs folder is in your "My Documents>maya>xx version>" folder. The tutor's curves could be a different color because he/she set their color preferences that way.

Create > CV Curve > []
(option box)

and change curve degree from linear to 3 Cubic

that's probably you're problem

i cant find any parameters to change after it's been created (other that the normal ones) so i dont think you can change the degree after you've made the curve

that's a "Ch" pronounced as a "K"

Computer skills I should have:
Objective C, C#, Java, MEL. Python, C++, XML, JavaScript, XSLT, HTML, SQL, CSS, FXScript, Clips, SOAR, ActionScript, OpenGL, DirectX
Maya, XSI, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Motion, Illustrator, Flash, Swift3D
