Pc Specs for rendering

hey do any of you wonderful people know about pc components in relation to rendering times?

for instance my setup is a core i7 930 oc'd to 4.0ghz, gtx470 graphics card, 16gb corsair ram, 1tb wd drive
asus p6x58d-e, and lots of fans,
now i originally had 8gb of ram and after installing 16gb i didnt really notice a difference in render times, so im seriously thinking of getting a solid state drive, my theory being the insane read write speeds will help with rendering images, but will that actually happen or is it all down to the CPU??

Render times is all about about processing power. Moving to an SSD will only help in opening quicker of large files and also saving larger files. It will shave off very little of your render times

As murambi mentioned to you already, renderers like MentalRay or Vray are using CPU only. However, Vray RT is rendering via GPU, but there is also program created by czech company called FurryBall. It is a real time renderer which is decreasing time of rendering 30-300 times in comparison with CPU.

cheers for the replies, still going to buy an ssd for faster load times, but at least i wont be disappointed when it doesnt decrease my render times. lol.

ps furryball looks pretty good, considering what they are doing with an older version of the gfx card i have. definitely will invest in the 30 day trial.

Depends on the renderer, Keyshot uses CPU and CUDA if available, so things get pretty fast in some of the videos I've seen of people using it with 64+ cores. But as Murambi said, most of it is down to CPU.
