Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

select vertices from only one side

ok..everytime I want to select vertices from only one side (front perspective) the vertices on the side behind get selected, too.
Is there a way to turn this off?

Thanks...

I believe you can´t EagleKing, since you´re essentially picking the same vertice. Maya´s showing it to you in the two views.

This may be a silly question but are you clicking only on the vertex you want or are you drag-selecting the vertex? If you're drag-selecting, it will select the vertex you want as well as the one opposite of it. If you simply click on the vertex, it should select only the vertex you clicked.

You would have to turn on Backface Culling. Display > Custom Poly Display > Options.

Toward bottom of option box is a drop down for Backface Culling. Turn it On.
