Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Anyone used the jsmapper utility? I'm having probs, this is what i have so far ...

Any ideas what the problem could be, I've been told it could need the x,y,z flipped but that made no difference. Help guys

js normal mapper enables you to render normal maps in maya with MR.
not view it in the viewports. [iirc]
as of maya 7 and 8, rendering normal maps is not a problem.

if u cant see it in your viewport is because of your vid card. not jsnormal mapper. its not a realtime shader, just used for rendering normal maps with MR in previous versions of maya.

@ Vlad, Ah ok, my initial prob was that although i can see the normal map in the viewport it is poorly lit (See pic) I was informed the js mapper would sort this prob out. Anyideas what will sort this out? As its a pain having to keep rendering just to check the textures changes.

@PBMan, The desktop theme is one of many standard ones I got with my Alienware laptop, not sure if you can source it though i'll check.

that could be because of a few things.
your normal map is applied wrong.
youo need to plug it in the cameral normal.
i havent use the js_normmap node,
but your video card is problebly the problem.
since u have an alienware, im going to guess u are using a geForce.
if you are, in order to view the normal maps, you need to use a realtime shader from nvdia to be able to view it in maya.

Cheers vlad, well ive discarded the jsmapper as its obviously isnt for what i was told. I'll try and search on nvidia for the shader, unless you know of a direct link>?

It's just when you start to think you're getting the hang of this and slowly upping the ladder away from the newbie fold, that some block is in the way knocking you to the bottom :headbang:
