Normal mapping/baking/texturing kind of

I am currently working on a few game projects, and I have been trying to figure out how ot normal map and do a baking in maya.

Here is something kind of what I am looking fore...

trying to get a bump look without myself painting the texture in photoshop.

From what I've read so far, I understand that I need to make a high poly model and bake it to make a normal map...I think thats right, not sure.

One of the projects is a nwn 2 mod, that I have just been painting the textures and doing a bump map with it.

But for the other project is me and a few friends making a small game with a few quest here or there with the detail of oblivion...

Also just wondering if anyone can tell me how exactly oblivion does their textures?

Thats some of my work...
