Dirty room

Going to try to model this room, with the primary goals of learning some different modeling techniques and rendering/lighting

and first out is the bucket! yey!

Some questions:

1. How can I attach the part that hold the handle to the bucket?. I.e. how do you attach a nurbs object to another nurbs object?

2. In MAX there is a noise modifier . How do you "dirty up" a mesh in Maya?

3. Where are all the bend, skew etc. for nurbs and polys?

Thanks

I wouldn't attach the handle to the bucket. I'd just place it so it looked right.

But otherwise, you'd have to Edit Nurbs > Attach surfaces.

There isn't a noise modifier that I know of. I generally use a lattice or maybe a Sine modifier.

Bend and stuff can be found in the Animation menues under Deform > Create Nonlinear >

The bucket in the picture seems to be a little narrower at the base than yours. I think the bottle in the picture might also be a little thinner than the one you've made.

Looking like it should be a good likeness, though. user added image:tup:

thanks for the answers user added image

One more question. I've created a curve to represent the handle. How do I attach a circle to follow that curve so I get a solid surface? I think it was called loft in MAX, but deosn't seem to work the same way in Maya. When I select the curve and a circle it "morphs" the twio curves together... but it maybe something in the loft settings to get what I want?

In Maya what you want is called Extrude. Select the circle first (this is the profile curve) and Shift select the curve (path curve). SUrfaces > Extrude. You'll probably want to play with the settings to get it to follow the path, keep profile normal, etc etc.

Maya's Loft will just create a surface between 2 or more curves. That's why you got a weird shape.

Added the bucket handle, worked fine with extrude, mtmckinley user added image

Also changed the proportions of the bucket and bottle slightly.

Question: How do you change so that nurbs surfaces get round and smooth, and not jaggy edges when rendering?

You'd have to increase their tessellation in their attributes.
