Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

use the bevel plus tool with these settings
edit reset settings then change outer bevel style to convex out and inner bevel style to convex in and apply this to ur text
usually comes out quite nice
if for example the insdes of the a are the wrond direction curve click that curve and do edit corves -> reverse curve direction and this shold do it
in the attch pic the old curve it bends in but the new one bends out

you can create text or whatever in photoshop then save it as illustrator format. then import the illustrator file into maya and it become's a nurbs curve for the outline. great if you want some funky font's in true 3d!
