Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

F9 key...

Hi guys user added image
Could any one tell me if there is a simple way of turning show vertices on and off for the F9 key as mine is not working...
Could just be me I guess...

Im trying to reshape a curve inside a tree mesh which I've already made into a wire deformer. Is this possible?

I just cant bring up the vertices.....

Thanks.

Can you not just press F8 to go between object and componant? and then right click and go to vertex.

OR even just right click in object mode and select vertex?

Cool

To be honest I've never used the f9 key, didnt know it did that, haha!

To be honest I probably only use about 2 tools more from when I started on version 6 when modeling!

From what I've seen with the F keys you have to switch to component mode before f9 will take you to verts. I believe f10 gets you faces. Nice handy shortcuts, but the right click menu has all of that up front too so it allows you to take a hand away from the keyboard, for example making tablet work much niceruser added image

Nah you dont, in object mode pressing F9 ,F10 etc lets you select them directly, no need to go to comp. (checked it out after this thread!)

But with a quick right click your sorted, I pretty much use the hotbox all the time now with no menus up at all, a lot faster, took a while to get used to though!

Yeah I like the hotbox, only problem is in a dense scene it is at times rather difficult to get what you need, but I've learned that if your object is selected and in object mode you don't need to right click for hotbox over the object, youcan go it in grey space and still get what you need up. It is fairly awesomeuser added image

F8 thru to F12 run you through the gammut of component modes. As with F1 to F5 run you thru maya help and your on screen menu sets: animation, polys, surface etc...

cheers

I dont know if this is of interest to anyone but I keep it on the wall in case i get stuck!! The commands are easier to read tho as they are usually in bold type.......
I think I'm going to try and get used to using the hot box tho... I also find my keyboard stickers really helpful...
