Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro Review

I just got hold of a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro card from Gigabyte.. i have to give it back to the guy who gave it to me soon (sob), while i am having this card, i have a chance to see how it performs.

first of all the card rocks!!!.
I tested it on my 2 Gig northwood core intel processor, Intel 850EMV2 Motherboard and 1 GIG RDRAM(800 MHz).
And with MadOnion's 3D Benchmarking Software it ranked up 11,247 .. very impressive compared to 10,340
for the nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4600. Well according to the guy who gave this card to me he told me that
it backed in Aquanox and Serious Sam SE by the Ti4600 by only 5 to 6 fps. I dont care that much about the fps's. when i was using maya with image planes.. it was as smooth as butter...
According to me, if you have 370$, go buy the Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro right now!! i tell ya, its worth it. Just make sure you have the right cpu and ram to accompany it.
128 MB RAM DDR, and has heatsinks on all the Ram's so is 'overclockable'.
the cost, if i convert from Saudi Riyal > US$ then, it will be approximately 370$

Performance : 5/5
Features: 5/5 (has full support for Pixel/Vertex shading)
Value: 5/5
Longevity: 5/5 (Full support & Muscle power for todays and future games)

Overall: 5/5

One more thing, this card is the reason for the Ti4600's dramatic price drop

Whilst they undeniably rule for games and benchmarks, they are pretty awful for pro 3d apps - I've tried one in maya and found my ti4200 to be for less buggy and faster. xbitlabs did a graphics card test using the 9700pro using max 5 and they came up with the same conclusion. If ATI can get a decent opengl driver out for it then it might be different... fingers crossed user added image

Hey I bought myself a Radeon 9700 128mb cause I figured hey I'd go for the newest, but I've had nothing but glitches on my screen. As if Maya is being chewed up, and my colors look so mixed up sometimes I've tried downloading newer drivers but nadda. I hope they find a solution for this.
