Close Quarters

Going to turn this into a "Pirate" type scene when it's all done. This is only the start...but that's what a WIP is I guess user added image

Looking good! How about bumping up the brightness of the candle light a little?

You should try and maybe rotate the treasure chest a bit to give it more of a 3D look. just a bit of the side in the picture, would be nice.

The image is looking very good. Nice mood and atmosphere to scene.

In addition to rotating the chest, I would move the map around a bit as well. As it is, the scene is a little bland in terms of composition. Everything looks a little too organized for a pirate type scene.

Also, the materials are looking a bit plasticky, in particular, the candle dish and the porthole frame. Not too sure what materials they're supposed to be. I realize you're still working on this, but just something to think about as you tweak this.

Finally, the shadow that is on the left side of the map is confusing. What is creating such a harsh line down the middle of the map? It seems to me that the candle would be casting more light that area, and the light would fall off more gradually.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the suggestions. Got the chest rotated now, going to be putting some coins and jewels scattered around as well as a pearl necklace. Also going to place a bloody dagger through the map with blood drops on the map and desktop. I move forward three steps, back two, forward two, back one, etc. user added image

Still needs pearl necklace, coins, bloody dagger and bloodspots....and a much better flame, but all in good time user added image

Ok, just another update....now I took my render over to Blondie's machine to correct some color and brightness problems my computer has...so you should see a difference now user added image I had the render up on my screen and opened it on hers and matched color and brightness levels in Photoshop as well as I could.

Still working on it......

Lookin good so far. I think the thing that needs most work would be lighting. The texturing is well done. If this is going to be a still, then you might want to add a flame in Photoshop instead of Maya. Keep it up! =]
