Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

yea, i really dont want to do anything orc-like.

if anyone have any cool refs or monster link, i can try to incorparate in the modeling.
this is what the head is based off, not my concept. i just found it the other day on conceptart.org

Perhaps a Gollum-like character who roams around on all fours?

first this is a really highly detailed model well done
There is a tutorial done by Dave Komorowski @
https://thehobbitguy.com/tutorials/polymodeling/
This actually reminded me of it.
I tried the tutorial but my model didn't work out how i wanted it to.
I prefer video tutorials because u get to see everything thats happening.

How long did this take to model and what process did u take to model it.

hehe. well, i dont use tuts to model anymore.

dave's tut is a good tutorial for beginners. but his modeling technique is not the best.

i started with a simple 2x2 plane then kept extruding. i find that way to be very fast and accurate.
just find a way you are comfortable with then practice it.

and its also a good idea to not model pixel for pixel,
and use the perp view more than ortho's. viewing the mesh in persp give a better idea of how the volume sits on the mesh.

good luck. i should update soon.

Holy mother....this is some amazing stuff. I gotta try doing something like this one day. I'm really slow at learning so to reach your level right now would take me a whole decade if I even get there.lol Man....I hope I don't have to be able to do stuff like that right now to get a job. haha

Man that's nuts! When you model like this, do you use picture reference or is it all in your head as you extrude?

only ref i try to use when i model for personal projects are refs that sort of make sure the anatomy fits.
all the rest i make up as i go and extrude along the way.
this lets me be free when i model, not bound by a reference image. user added image

Dang Vlad, this looks awesome. The upper body is great and it meshes well with the head. The only thing that bothers me are the ears. They just don't seem to flow as nicely with the rest of the mesh as I wish they would. Something about it causes discontinuity to me. I hope you don't mind, I'm a terrible painter I know. I made a quick and crappy paintover to try and kinda illustrate what I mean.

Everything else looks really amazing, but the ear makes me pause for a second. Anyway, just my opinion. I didn't change much but I hope the paintover is at all useful.

Keep up the good work, man. Your work is quite inspirational

This model is already and going to just keep getting better and better. U said that the upper body only took u one night in ur spare time? I barely get my image planes set up in one night.

Q: Did u extrude the edges around the neck of the head down and just kept on extruding to model the upper body?

U should start a portfolio or something maybe with some walkthroughs of your work and maybe some tutorials.
I think i speak for everyone on this site when i say that ur work is dam good.
