Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Low Poly Turret

Just completed this. Just wanted to try my hand at some low poly stuff. Well... this is sort of in-between poly. :p Coming in at 3890 tris, I don't know how low it really is compared to the standard and for being such a small piece. But anyway...

What do you think?

And here's the hand painted texture map.
This is actually my first try at painting a full texture map. Mostly I just use edited photo maps. This one was painted entirely by hand.

Looking good. The poly count seems a bit high for "low poly". If you really wanted it lower then I would cut down the number of edges in that top dome area. Perhaps making it 16 sided and then alot let faces to smooth out the ends.

But its looking good none-the-less.

Maybe you could shave some polys like Icarus suggested, but all in all .. a cool piece.

I really like those textures they are jolly particularly the impact holes in the base, lovely.

The one on the guns looks a tad faded out to me in comparison to the others, but it just might be the angle.

That's the beauty of a 1440x1440px image shrunken down to 512x512. user added image
