This is why I always use reference, then when somebody says that you're wrong generally (unless it obviously is) then you can justify things in a correct manner, and as youve commented above, things are all shapes and sizes, you cant really second guess a photo.
At the end of the day, as an artist you choose to create what attracts you really if you think about it.
