Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

maya 6 on the farm

Ever since we upgraded to Maya 6 (about a month ago) I have been seeing unprecedented levels of failed frames on our render farm.

Error: An exception has occurred, rendering aborted.

Not a very helpful error message, but I was wondering if anyone else was seeing this, and better yet if anyone knew of a way to fix it.

Thanks.

those sorts of errors only seem to happen to me when my machine runs out of memory... could that be it? Is it a big scene? Could you maybe reference some stuff in instead of loading it etc etc

Sorry I can't be more help but it's an awful error to try and get to the root of user added image

I don't think so. Some of these render boxes have 4 GB of RAM with 180 GB drives that are virtually empty.

The bizarre thing is that my scene has 10 different files that make all of the different render passes and the heaviest one of them is the one that almost NEVER fails.

The good news is that Mental Ray on the farm seems rock solid so after this project I'm just going to render with Mental Ray as often as possible.

Tried the classic "export-everything-to-a-new-file" trick?

Not Yet. God thought though. I think my new friend influenza may be clogging my cognative thought process.
