Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

I really get cheesed when somebody does a Star Wars model as theres always something wrong. So I have posted you some images of real stuff including handles and blades. Do your model some justice as these things are part of our culture in a way if you think about it for a minute.

Just on another side note, what's the difference between all the different sabers?

Hey Tim

No not from my collection, I get pissed as people get it so wrong most of the time. I just looked on the web from a google search. I dont think this dude has used any good reference, if at all.

The handles from top to bottom are Ep1 Replicas of Qui Gons and Obi Wan, Then a replica of Yodas(as hes digital) and Dooku and the lower left is the top of Darth Mauls.

The next is a home built replica of Lukes from Jedi, the original parts can be bought off ebay pretty cheap so you can do your own. A friend of mine has Lukes from the original Star Wars movie, its just so cool.

Last pic is a Lucasfilm promo for Ep2, ideal glow from THE source.

Later
Jay

I know what you mean, if you're going to go something that has reference avaible then it should be used. If it's a made up object then fair enought but as you can see getting a reference image for a lightsaber is piss easy.

Im sure that it the case, but it's just these little things that get's to us. I have a feeling it get's to Jay more than me.

But that's what a WIP thread is about (to me at least), posting your work and getting people's opinion on how it could be better.

Matt

Its not a case of 'who cares' and yeah Im sure it is for fun, but as Tim says its a WiP thread and if you ask for opinions and help you will get them. And if you cant stand crit dont post at all.

Id rather be honest in my opinions etc than glossing over work and blinding the poor dude with lies.

I myself dont consider my work to better than the next guy. You have to be honest with yourself or who are you kidding at the end of the day?user added image

Anyway less rant, carry on...
