Havnt really had the chance to do anything lately since i been abit busy with school ... but heres a couple of idea's which i anticipate on doing.

Im going to do some type of ancient ruined courtyard with a fountain in the middle of it as in the ref pictures. Though i will change couple of things such as:

-Surrounding buildings are 1 level only not 2
-Have a surrounding gate/fence and some other details.

Im not really going to do alot for the modeling, as i want this project to be more texture based as im a novice person in it as some of you may no. So i need all the support and help i can get from you guys user added image

Lets hope i can do this user added image

Cheers, Marlon

nice Idea

I would go a bit mad with some paint FX to add weeds etc etc round the pillars etc etc. Also I would make it all nice and built up then get the split poly tool and break some bits off to ruin it up a bit.

Yeah i am gonna add lots of weeks growing around the pillars and some parts of the fence. Also with the other suggestion about breaking bits up with split poly tool user added image

For the weeds, which way would it be better?

Make weeds with paint FX going along some curve if it is possible? Or try to project a texture onto the object? Or would both be good?

You could do both. If I was making foliage I would either grab some pis and then apply them to a poly plane with a alpha as a transparancy map for the plane too, or you could make some paint FX render them out using the front/side camera than save the render with its alpha and use that.

You can attach paint FX to curves, make the curve then select the brush from the visor and select the curve (the selection might be the other way round as I cnat remember off the top of my head) then attach the brush to the curve, the options in the paint FX menu.

@ Steve - (referring to first paragraph) Yeah gonna do it the way you said it, also gonna try both ways and see which one looks the best. And also with the Paint FX on curve, worked like a charm,

thanks again ... Btw, you going to enter this challenge?

@ THX1138 - Hahaha! yeah finally entered :p lol

Decided to try and practice my texture skills as this is probably the 2nd time ived really open the UV Texture Editor and tried something where as the first i did a cube and that didnt even go as well...

Got a question though, when i was just about finished, i just realized that in the bottom right quadrant(UV Error Picture), one of the things ended up being slightly bending/diagonal? i kinda fixed it up by doing auto-mapping but is that ok for later on when i apply the texture or anything...

Thanks,

Marlon

You should play the first Devil May Cry video game (PS2) for inspiration. The 2nd level has a courtyard environment almost exactly like what you've posted with ruined balcony, stairs, walls, etc.
