Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Mini Mac & Maya

I just purchased a Mac Mini and wanted to run Maya 6.5. The system I ordered does fill the minimum requirements (1.25 Ghz, 512MB, 80 GB) but is weak on the Vram at 32MB. Has anyone run this system with Maya? I want to make short animated projects (10 minutes) and I consider myself render patient friendly (as this is a hobby). Or am I looking at another system?

Video RAM is important. You'll be happy to know that 6.5 has some enhanced (speed improvements) over 6.01. Especially using mental ray. You can up the Systems RAM io 1gb which might help things but hang in there & see how the 512 works out. The video R is low, ? / There are no video compatibility checks for 6.5, video cards on a MAC yet. Is it NVIDIA or ATI. Good Luck with it!!

As a hobbyist system, the Mac mini is adequate. You will not get stellar rendering performance because of the G4, but it will still be ok. Screen display and updates might not be perfect because of the Radeon 9200 and the 32 MB of video ram. However, you will be able to work ok in Maya. Just don't expect high-end performance from an entry-level machine.
