Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Final Entries - January Challenge -Before and After

Okay dudes

The Grim Reaper is in the building - time to give up your work for judgement!!

If you could each put the before and after images in this thread please, that means both images: 'before' and 'after' so the judges can see what has been added to the scene

Images to be NO bigger that 1024 with of course your name: January - Before and After - Final - 'your name' would be most appreciated.

A big thanks to all who have taken part, lets see how many now stuck it out to the end. Good Luck!!

Cheers
Jay

here are the final images. I didn't have time to make any changes today. I was also having problems saving the scene... something about unknown nodes.

before and after 1024x776
(full 1920x1080 on my WIP thread.)

Cheers
Dom.

January Before and after Final Murambi

Hey all so this is my before and after named "THE CHASE" . I modelled the car, jet and missiles in maya used the mip_matte shadow for shadows. Rendered out in passes for easier control in Adobe after effects, I created the smoke trails using the cc particle world 2 combined with abit of trap code particular. as for the flame i used the action essentials 2 kit.

Back plate and HDRI are courtesy of hdri-locations

So gutted I was away for the most part of this challenage - looked like fun, but saying that if I read it propally think I could have done something as we did not have to model the objects - missed that little bit of info.

Here is what I think, bear in mind I have not gone though all the W.I.P - just not the time - so comments based on final entries only.

Think honestdom would get my vote for the win here....but great work from others

I love THX`s just think more work was needed blending it in and reflection.

daverave - did not like the look of the robot but apart from that I would say close second - refection need some more work to match the reflections in the water and would have been nice to see some reaction of the water to the pole that I find really hard to see -but nice piece of work.

darecarce was very good - just think you forgot to give the key a reflection as every other object in the pic has one in the table.

murambi - lots of action and shown lots of good work here, but for me the car is too big by about 25% and don`t like the blur lines you got on the skyline and the background.

Acid44 - needed lights on the car - then spot on

eye_grafix - just wished you had a train on those tracks.

Well done to all - see you next challenge - bring it

Cheer tweetytunes! About the reflection, it would not have made sense for that photo background because the water is not calm in that pic. The buildings are not even casting a reflection. About the composition, thats, the best I could do because the light levels in the pic I chose for the background are so low. I also think honestdom's entry has the best chance of winning. About the others. It's a hard decision.

Nice entries guys!

Murambi's entry is great! Screams Hollywood. Which at the end of the day, is what it's all about.

I think honestdom's may be the best technically executed piece here, so it's a tossup on who gets the win!

Love the UFO THX!

Cheers Mayaniac! I'm happy it did not disappoint. I actually hadn't done anything with Maya for over a year, so this challenge was a great exercise to get back into it.
