This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Yeah, i normally don't bother with the fine details until after I've modeled the Main portions of the body, but i wanted to see what it was going to look like.

Unfortunately this projects on a bit of a slow go for me. As I'm very busy going out all the time, and doing other things that require my time. So i won't be able to update until probably... Late Sat-Sun.

And, yes your right about some of the areas of the model I'm about to encounter...... Looks like allot of hard work ahead.

I'm particularly not looking forward to the Rear/side air intake.

You should post a WIP of yours here too, then we could compare notes...

Good luck user added image

heres the wip to my recently started thread.

I have a feeling the air intake along the side isnt going to be nearly as hard as the areas around the side windows, especially in the back with the rediculously sharp lines.

UPDATE:

Well, first of, sorry for not being around that much lately. During Christmas i was taking a brake from 3D and focusing on family and stuff..... then when I was finally ready to get back online....... We lost the internet. :headbang:

Well after fixing this problem, and entire week had gone by.

But this was a good thing it gave me some time to work on my modeling :attn: As i haven't got the internet to get in my way. lately it's been 100% Maya!!!!

Anyway, enough blabber!

I've pretty much finished the modeling with only a few things to finish up on, namely:

Inner wheels (Brakes and stuff)

Rear air intake.

Window whippers.

Real tires. (as the ones right now are just place holders.)

And a allot more basic tweaking!!!

Ok, so theres allot left to do..... user added image

Anyway..... PICS:

nice. looking real good.

I havent finished yet. still have to add the side view mirrors, the underside of the rear bumper, and windshield wipers, rims, tires. But i think im still going at a decent speed. I must say a lot fo your details are much cleaner than mine(it was very difficult to find decent reference images with such a new car). Do you have a lot of references o possibly a small model of the car?

And are we going to see a wire?

I wish i did have a little model of this Car. But I'm just using about 20+ Ref images i gathered.

If your having trouble finding refs, i don't mind emailing you my source images folder.

I look forward to seeing updates on your Camaro!

As for the Wires, I'll post some tomorrow.

actually as far as refs go ive mostly been using your screens of your car. i figure why not. it works. Ive noticed a few small differences however between some of my refs which is annoying.

Did you model each section individually(like bumpers, side skirts so on or as one mesh. I ask because id ont see the seam for your rear bumper to trunk to quarter panel area. Or do you plan on separating them after?

Ill throw some wips on my thread now.

Well i wouldn't base your model on mine... I'm using a ton refs and blueprints.... but i am only human, and there will be mistakes in my Model..... Like for instance, it turns out my Front bumper isn't quite right on the under side.... so i will be fixing this problem later. Also there are a couple of areas in the model that could also use some tweaking.

I did actually model the car as a whole. Then separated the different panels. But i haven't got to the rear end yet.

I will (Hopefully) be posting some more updates in a couple of days..... once I've finished Formating my Maya machine..... Stupid Virus!!!!

Mayaniac,

Would it be possible for you to tell me in detail how you set up the clay renders you did? Ive never learned much about rendering and texturing and the clay render seems to be a good way to show off the model details.

Or if your ever online im on AIM at Sublimedragon33

All I basically did was create 3 point lights, and position them as follows.

One at the back of the model, in a cool color (such as Blue) this gives the render depth, and some atmosphere.

One light over the top of the model, as a Fill Light ( I left the color to default for this one.)

Then one towards the front of the car (high up) as a detail light. This light helps clean up the render, and shows up the details, and shadows.

Then i set the Mental Ray setting to Production added some FG, and played with the AA settings.

Then hit Render!

I wasn't looking for a marvelous render scene when i did these. The render scene I'm using in those renders is purely for creating Clay display renders.

When i get to rendering a final scene with textures, and stuff. I will most likely use a completely different lighting rig.
