An idea is delicate.
It can be killed by a sneer or yawn,
It can be stabbed to death by a joke
Or worried to death by a frown

Activity in the IRC channel really depends on what time of day you're in there. I'm signed most of the day, but I do work during standard business hours, so I don't tend to respond very often. Keep checking in. Someone is bound to be alive in there at some point.
