Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

texture multiple objects

hey guys i was just wondering if it is possible to texture multiple objects at the same time, like select all of them and click assign texture and have it texture them all at once instead of individually.

You can (mesh/transfer Attributes) but if they are the same mesh it would be just as easy to UV 1 wheel then just duplicate that to the others............dave

Dave, thank you on your respond to my problem. I deleted my post, because I am reading Introduction to maya book and the book says that I should place the texture by clicking the map button. But when I do that and set ramp type and interpolation by the book, the colours from ramp are repeating on each of my wheels and they're not suppose to do that. According to the book, the rim should be all white and tyre should be all black. Therefore, I would appreciate if you would help solve this as described in the book user added image

If you want the different ramp for each wheel just assign a new shader to each wheel then do you ramp again, don't know why your pattern is repeating but this is how I set mine up................dave

Dave, I don't know either why the pattern is repeating. I'm new user and these things tend to slow me down, but this isn't the first thing that's been bugging me and I'm sure it's not the last user added image Maybe it's somthing to do with the settings or with position node, or something else. I don't know user added image

The pattern is still repeating no matter what type ramp type I choose. I've searched the web, but so far I had no luck in finding a solution.

Check the you don't have any repeats in your place2Dtexture node. That defines where and how the texture is applied.

I have repeats in both U and V direction and they are equal to 1. If I set repeat UV to 0 in U direction ramp colours disappear from my model. On the other if V = 0 and U = 1 the colours remain on my model

Okay, no it should be 1. There must be something else going on. Would you care to zip your scene file and post it for someone to take a look at?

Ok, your UVs are huge and occupy many times the 0-1 space. If you open the UV texture editor, select your UVs and hit Normalize, that should fix it.
