Lit area as transparent?

Sorry for the vague subject title,

But what i want to achieve is to light a polysphere and have the lit area become transparent whilst the shaded area remains visible, is it possible?

I've tried using a glass shader to achieve the result with no joy, but if a 'lit area' can be networked to the objects transparency then the sphere needn't be glass at all.

Any ideas?
Thanks

i actually was looking at a tutorial that seems to do just that about 5 minutes before seeing this post...

maybe this is what you want?

https://smorigin.scm.cityu.edu.hk/int...nsp/index.html

whereever the light shines the object is transparent, and where the light doesn't hit, the object is opaque.
