July/August Norm Gster123

Well going in for my first comp!!

The combination that I got was "Light Jungle" which seems pretty cool.

The combination makes me think up an image of one of those lamp shops you get with all different types and styles of lamps and lights everywhere.

I think i'll have some sort of tree or tropical plant behind the counter sort of acting as the sales person?????

Think I might change my Idea to a cityscape at night in the background being viewed from a jungle clearing??

And another Idea

The forrest and ground will be supported with large balloons so that it is floating above an ocean, hence giving the "light jungle"

What do you guys think???

that is a cool idea user added image

How about having the scene from the viewpoint of a boat or something so you see all these jungle tendrils hanging down towards you from the big floating mass? user added image

Cheers Tick.

I'm thinking of that for the final shot with the sun shining through the trees and foliage etc and some of the tendrils and roots touching the water, but playing around with the camera angles I cant find a nice spot as it would block out a lot of the actual jungle.

I'm going to make it a "chunk" of earth so to speak so thats floating.

Some good ideas here gster - reminds me a little of 'Castle in the Sky' by Miyazaki.

Looking forward to seeing your progress with this one - Good luck on your first challenge.

Cheers Arran,

I'll hopefully have an update tonight, gonna try and get the island sorted first then onto the trees.

I still need to plan how I'm going to create the trees. What i've thought about so far is to model and texture a few types of Jungle plants and forna then assign them to particles as instances, then have the island surface emmit the particles in a random order to build the jungle (with a bit of tweeking and/or MEL to get some variation), then use maya hair connected to geometry for roots/vines etc.

Not sure if it will work as i've never tried anything like it.

Also formulating a reason of how a chunk of the jungle ended up floating on huge balloons!!

I think it's an awesome idea!! I really hope you do it!

you can use paint FX for the trees. No need for modelling each tree etc. I've got a lovely image in my head as to how this should turn out!! don't let me down!! user added image

I have a picture in my head of some turbines/ big fans to move the island around... just a thought. God I almost feel like copying your idea and doing it aswell!! user added image

Well created the basic island and a couple of basic texutres.

I need to get the theory of the dynamic creation of the jungle on spec. before I commit to anything, as well as using hair systems for the vines!!

Does anyone have any pointers on the above???

P.S Pure_morning, i'm either thinking of having some motors or anchoring it down with some big chains!!

Cheers

I would suggest trying to frame your scene in a way that you don't have to show the entire floating island to get your point across. Or do it like a view a little from a little lower vantage point so that you don't have to show the entire top of the island or something.

Something more like this i think.

I'm concentrating more on trying to get the plants going at the moment.
