Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Creating Polygon Face

Hey Guys,

I am trying this tutorial: https://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutori...orial-303.html

But the I am running into a problem when it says "the next thing you're going to want to do is subdivide it using your split polygon tool (located under edit polygons>split polygon tool). The trick to keep in mind here is to follow the contours of your drawing while keeping the amount of subdivisions down to a minimum."

Because I can only make straight line subdivisions. Its really hard to explain. In the picture:

The subdivision has multiple lines where as when I do it, it only lets me have one straight line going from one edge to the other. Do you know how I can do what the other person did in the above image?

Thanks so much,
Louis

EDIT:: Im using Maya 8.5 so thats probably why its different for me.

you need to change the settings of the tool (the little box next to the tool in the menu.

so..
Edit Mesh>Split Polygon Tool>option box

and turn off "snap only from edges"

and save the settings
