Overlapping sections in render making colour intensify?

When I render my scene, where sections overlap, the colour of the area intensifies. How do I tell Maya which object has priority to render? The render height or level?

What means do I have to stop this happening? I don't want the colours combining, I want colours to remain at their set value, or I want object to respect a later object-render!

Any help welcome for this Maya newbie !!!
