Default High Quality render wont work

for some reason high-quality rendering in the viewport stopped working last week. i have a nice GFX card (nvidia 7600 gt, i believe), and it used to work great. i have updated my card with new drivers and such, but i do not think that is the problem.... any ideas?

the model just shows up black or white...

It could be the drivers, try rolling them back and seeing if it goes back to working.

hey, didnt work. it made my power supply fail..... so i got a new power supply and an Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT, and it STILL wont work...... hmm

Hey guys, My high quality renderer in maya 8.5 wont work still, and i have no idea why. It displays the model as black unless i turn on "low-quality light". Even though i have a very nice graphics card, and the high quality renderer in Maya 2008 works like a charm. The reason i need it to work in 8.5 is because it has an NIF exporter so i can mod oblivion, but if i cant view normals, that wont work out too well...

that output message looks like it's not able to handle phong since it can't compile the cg file

maybe you need to reinstall maya?

maybe you'd installed something between the time of your last working high-quality render to the time of this render that has made issues for compiling?
