Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

why the new thread/no sketches?
I'm probably a worse drawer than you, so post!

Also, I'll try to start soon, probably Friday though...

well... this was my first idea to do...

i was gonna have a wasteland type area where a forest has been destroyed (either by people or by fire... although forest fire is probably usually caused by some noob)

and in that wasteland a wolf (ok it looks more like a bandicoot or something that ISNT a wolf...) see's this little flower sprouting

concept sketch was for a night scene and for the word hope...

but i think i'm gonna use a different picture alltogether

...it's kinda annoying that lots of ideas flood in and i can only do one of them....

its tough choosing...

anyway, my actual scene will probably involve a human... either it will represent solitude, determination, or sorrow...

no idea where i'm going yet...

i thought it was a fox...

Anyway, thats not so crap, i can tell what it is!

Anyway, good luck with modeling and texturing that guy in a week, lol,.

I'm not gonna have a human in mine, because of the time limit.

screw texturing! MWAHAHAHAHAH

well... it might be easier than the wolf...

the scene with the human probably wont have much other than him (hence solitude or sorrow)

Thats a pretty cool, yet ambitious idea Chirone! Hope your up to it!

I was thinking of tackling fear or Sorrow.

I was thinking of maybe having and old woman Holding a framed picture, of a man (presumable her recently deceased husband). The shot would be taken from her perspective.... That way I would only have to model her hand user added image There would be a tear running down the front of the picture.
But I figured that idea was too simple. And probably wouldn't be fair... I'm modeling a picture, and you guy's are modeling entire burning landscapes, and not to mention multiple characters. user added image

So another idea I had... A little girl sat in the middle of an old, dark and empty room. Clutching her doll and a tear running down her face. The light in the room would be coming from the doorway (which would be sat behind the camera.) In the light cast into the room would be a shadow, a silhouette of a man.

anyway, I'll get some sketching done tomorrow, and see what other ideas I can come up with.

man, this is just lame....

i'm trying to paint the weights and my laptop can't do it... it lags too far behind the clicks and adding to the weights don't even appear to do anything...

Have you deleted the history on the model?

yeah, i'm pretty sure i deleted the history before doing everything...
although i might have forgot.. not sure... all the brushes (weights and the geo-sculpt) have slowed down since i duplicated and merged verticies
maybe i'll go to an older save and try again

yup, its currently in sub-d, which is where i've binded the skeleton

no matter.... it doesn't matter if the model gets deformed for this shot, cuz he wears a lot of clothes that cover him (this was actually part of his original design which i should probably post?), so i'll just put him into position and block some polygon clothes...
