Default Not working skin clusters

Hi.

I am trying to get to grips with deformers and thought I should start from the bottom and install a weight tool. I tried this http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/do...ol-for-maya--2

If anybody use that or something like it please tell me why all I get all the time is // Error: No match for skin cluster.

I made a simple nurbs square and attached a few vertices to a cluster. I can see them attached to the cluster in the component editor and I can set the weight.

It seems this is only for bound models; ones with skeletons. I don't think it will work with clusters.
