How do I set up the arrows atfer I Make a Poly Combine Cause they always seem to go to the left

To change the pivot point, hit insert (or home on mac) and move the manipulator around. You can snap it to the grid by holding down x... I feel like I just answered this.

goto modify menu,select center pivot.......
this option also useful more times.....

Snapping with 'V'

I only recently learnt thru a tutorial here that you can snap anything selected (pivot point Inc) By holding the V key and then using the middle mouse button click/drag on a vertex. This has improved/eased my work a great deal.

And to add to that, without going anywhere near the insert key, just hold d, x and MMB on the origin. Bam! Done. Or with vertices, hold d, v and MMB, like you said.
