unused materials

Hi, i have alot of unused materials in my scene(lambert,phong) and i am wondering if these materials will actually cause any lag or slowness in rendering? thanks

go to the hypershade
edit > delete unused nodes

Anything in your scene will add to the render time, but the amount of unused shaders in your scene should be really intense before it can be felt in rendertime. However, it can be seen in your file size when you save the scene.
