PSAS-Portal Light +Area light = dull color

I have a interior scene with a window sporting a portal light. Which renders out great by itself, yet the interior is dark due to the portal light not "filling" the entire space.

So I added a area light. But when I do. The render is "grayishly" brighter. I am using a Mia.Material.x with 1.0 reflection and 1.0 gloss and it's just dull and craptastic looking.

I've looked online for tutorials and tried many many things but now I am just confused as what the issue is.

I'm trying to get the mia.mat.x to "pop" because it's a bright color.

do you have an environment?
do you mean you added another area light?

It's an interior scene. No outside environment

Yes added another area light. To brighten up the rest of the room.. I've tried point lights with IES.. But that's over my head.. Or I can't find a IES suitable for my needs..

When I finish up with this muster batch and head home.. I'll post pics to better show/explain my words.

hey thanks.
i thought the portal light was to bleed colour from the environment into the interior of the room. If you have no environment that might be an issue. If its just for a still image you could try using final gather to get some indirect/bounce light.
